How long have you been training / racing?
I've currently just finished my 3rd Season
Why triathlon?:
I'd lost a lot of weight and been regularly to the Gym and Cycling the (short) distance to work. I had fallen off my bike and had damaged the ligament at in my knee. While layed up I knew unless I set myself a goal my life would one more slip into takeaways and beer, at this point a triathlon was shown on the telly. So despite not running or doing any proper swimming since being a child and riding a maximum of 1mile to work a day Triathlon was the challenge!
Favourite distance?
Long, a lower level of pain for a long time please!
Favourite event / race?
Frankfurt Ironman - My first and only IM to date!
Favourite training session?
Long long long ride, gives you time to settle down and ponder life, I don't talk much when out.
Favourite discipline?
Proudest achievement?
Advice to someone starting or thinking of starting triathlon?
Start small and enjoy what you are doing. If it’s hard, little by little it will get easier (or you'll get faster, or both!). Join a club, in those times when motivation wains having company around you will push you on to go faster or further. Be consistent; doing a little bit of training regularly is much better than doing loads one week then nothing for two. But most of all don't be afraid!!! No-one is judging you, they've got their hands full doing what they're doing. Everyone will encourage you and support you. Take it from an overweight guy who joined the friendliest Tri club in the country then went on to do IronMan!!
