Message from Greg Parkin re Running Training

You may have heard me talk about "progressive training" or "progressive overload training". Let me explain- it is our intention to introduce all members into smart ways of training, and to teach techniques that allow us all to be ready for the season when it starts, or your A race whenever that may be.

We believe that running should have a base minimum of 3 sessions per week- one will be a track session, one may be a hill session (power) and another one should be your long run at an easier pace. More running will help, but be careful how this effects your bike and swim training.

I personally believe that the members active at training sessions are fairly new to this type of training. We have therefore designed a few (only a few) track sessions that also include stength sessions within them. Your hamstrings will get stronger, your feet will get stronger, your core strength will improve, and the technique part will ensure you don't lose the good form.

By mid Feb, the track will be all about running, pace awareness, technique and hopefully this will lead to better times in your races!!

Generally sessions will be longer than 5kms and you will (or should) hurt and sweat!!

21/10/2010

We've had some great feedback from our first session at Thornes Park Athletics track. Despite the cold and drizzly conditions, 30 club members turned up to the first of the sessions held by Greg Parkin, Steve Worthington and Tony Weston. The sessions focussed on low heart rate running and running technique - very useful!

Wakefield Triathlon Club are pleased to announce a 5 or 6 week Monday evening Run Workshop.

The Workshop will be lead by our very own Elite Windsor Winning Triathlete Mr Steve Worthington (with a helping hand from Shaun, Tony and Greg).

Week 1 will be this Monday when we will carry out testing to determine base speeds, this will be followed by 4 weeks (dates may be altered when we meet this monday if required) of running technique and efficiency, leading to a winter of intervals, speed and strength work.

If you want to run faster, come along, if you want to run more efficiently, come along.

The sessions are on our on-line calendar.

There will be a charge of £1 (yes one whole pound!!) on top of the Thornes entry fee.

Bring your Heart Rate Monitor if you have one.
