Scissett Triathlon 2022

This weekend saw the return of Scissett Triathlon with 130 entrants turning out to take on the 400m pool swim, 18km bike route and 4km run. The course is not for the feint hearted; the first half of the bike leg is a long climb up to Emley Moor Mast before descending into Denby Dale and back to transition at the pool car park. The run is no easier, a cross country route uphill to Skelmanthopre by which time, you are ready for the relief of running down hill on the road and back to the finish line.

This year the event was run by Huddersfield Triathlon Club which had challenged members of Wakefield Triathlon to a “battle of the tri clubs”, with members paired up based on ability and pitched against each other on the day. This friendly rivalry between the two clubs added to the fun on the day with the Bamforth Cup awarded to the winners.

Despite a fantastic turn out from Wakefield Triathlon Club the cup went to Huddersfield Triathlon, winning 11-9 in this inaugural event.

All was not lost for Wakefield Triathlon Club though, with some impressive results from Members including: Lucy Burn achieving 1st female, with Helen Ilsley taking 2nd place and Joe Howard and Mark Mills scoring 2ndand 3rd placed males overall. In addition, Sarah Whiterod, Nina Williams, Sally Campbell, Rachel Lodge, Eddy Burrows, Jason Broadley, Roger Lawtry and Mick Flaherty all took 1st place in their respective age groups. Jo Pye also took 3rd place in the Aquathon.

It was a great return for this local triathlon event and the start of a hotly contested rivalry between these two local clubs!
